  • DAY 1: Arrive to Lima

You will arrive to Lima International Airport. We will welcome with a sign Peru Birding Tours and transfer to our hotel selected. 

  • DAY 2: Morning Flight to Tarapoto  - Moyobamba

We will be transfer to lima airport for our flight. As soon as we arrive to Tarapoto we will start our drive to Moyobamba town and enjoin the hummingbirds feeders at Waqanki Lodge. After Lunch we will bird Morro de calzada for extra species. We will try for some owls before or after Dinner. Overnight in Waqanki Lodge or Hotel.

Birds: 

  • DAY 3: Calzada Reserve - Pomacochas (huembo)

Early breakfast and then we will explore the mountains of Jesus del Monte and surroundings for more species. After lunch we will start our birding drive up to abra patricia mountains with a visit of Arena reserve for antpittas and more hummingbird species. We are planning to get Pomacochas town late afternoon. Dinner and night in Pomacochas hotel.

  • DAY 4: Birding up to San Lorenzo - Owlet Lodge

There is a chance for: Pale-billed Antpitta (endemic) at San Lorenzo trail. The fisrt part is by car all the way to San Lorenzo village, then we will need to walk the uphill for aorund 30 minutes or a bit more for: Chestnut-crowned Cotinga, White-capped Tanager, Rusty-tinged Antpitta, Peruvian Wren, Russet-mantled Softtail and many others. Then we will back for lunch and then we will go to huembo center for Marvelous Spatuletail and other hummers. Dinner and night in Owlet Lodge

  • DAY 5-6: Full Days Birding

We will have two full days birding along the canopy tower, trails, lodge surroundings and along abra patricia valley doing some stop at Afluente, Alto Nieva feeders for extra species. We will try for the Owlet and other species before dinner.  Nights in Owlet Lodge.

  • DAY 7: Birding, Tarapoto

Morning birding the hill forest behind the lodge. And After Lunch we will start our drive to Tarapoto. There are several stops along the road. After Lunch we will seacrh for centain species outside town. Night in Tarapoto hotel.

  • DAY 8: The tunnel, Koepecks Hermit Station - Lima -Cusco

Early drive up to the tunnel for Dooted Tanager, Plumbeous Euphonia, Masked Tanager, Golden-collared Toucanet, Cliff Flycatcher and several other found along the reserve. Then we will visit the feeders for the Endemic Koepecks Hermit. There is a chance to get also Golden-headed Manakin lek near the station with some luck White-plumed Antbird, Long-tailed and Great Potoo roosting. Then we will be transfer to Tarapoto airport for our flight to Lima and Cusco. Night in Hotel.

  • DAY 9: Machu Picchu Time

Today we will enjoin one of wonder of tehe world. Early train ride to Aguas Calientes and from there we will take the buss up to the entrance of the inca ruin. There we will explore th main sites for some hours. Then we will have lunch and then our trip back to Cusco. Night in Hotel

  • DAY 10: Manu National Park - Manu Road

Breakfast and then we will start our birding adventure driving to Hucarpay Lake for target species. Then we will continuos our drive to Paucartambo village for lunch on our favorite local restaurant. After we will move to Acjanaco pass where Manu National Park starts. After the pass we will probably start to see more species on our way to our first lodge in Manu road located at 1,500 meters. We will try to get in time for Lyred-Tailed Nightjar display at dusk another wise we will do on next afternoon Dinner and Night in lodge

Birds: Bearded Mountanier (E), Moustached Flowerpiercer, Hooded Mountain-Tanager, Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Golden-collared Tanager, Grass-green Tanager, Gray-mantled Wren, Mountain Foliage-Gleaner, Olive-Backed Woodcreeper, Stripe Threehunter, Scale-crested Pygmy-Tyrant, Inca Flycatcher(E), Marble-faced Bristle-Tyrant, Stripe-Chested Antwren, White-backed Fire-Eye, Black-eared Hemispingus, Yellow-breasted Antwren, Yungas Manakin, Yellow-throated, common Clorospingus, Dusky-Green Oropendola, Brown Tinamou, Rufous-tailed Tyrant, Chestnut-backed Antshrike, Unicolored Antshrike, Andean Motmot, Rufescent Screech-Owl, Blue-naped Chlorophonia, Yellow-breasted Antbird, Black-streaked Puffbird and many others.

  • DAY 11-12: Full days Birding

Early and late afternoon birding along the road for mixed flocks and residents species.  We will try also at dusk for some owls. Meals at lodge and overnights.

Birds: Andean Cock of the Rock, Versicolored Barbet, Beryl-spangled, Safron-Crown, Golden Tanagers and Orange-eared, Yellow-throated, Slaty, Golden-naped, Paradise, Blue-necked, Bay-headed, Spotted Tanagers, Deep-blue Flowerpiercer, Three-stripe Warbler, Russet-crowned Warbler, Black-faced Brush-finch, Golden-headed Quetzal, Crested Quetzal, Amazonian Umbrellabird, Wire-crested Thorntail, Speckled Hummingbird, Violet-headed Hummingbird, Peruvian Piedtail (E), Many-spotted Humminbird, Botted Raquetail, Gray-mantled Wren, Mountain Foliage-Gleaner, Olive-Backed Woodcreeper, Stripe Threehunter, Scale-crested Pygmy-Tyrant, Marble-faced Bristle-Tyrant, Stripe-Chested Antwren, White-backed Fire-Eye, Black-eared Hemispingus, Yellow-breasted Antwren, Yungas Manakin, Yellow-throated, common Clorospingus, Dusky-Green Oropendola, Brown Tinamou, Rufous-tailed Tyrant, Chestnut-backed Antshrike, Unicolored Antshrike, Andean Motmot, Rufescent Screech-Owl, Blue-naped Chlorophonia, Yellow-breasted Antbird and many others.

  • DAY 13: Birding drive the upper Manu Road

Today we will search for missing species. Then we we will drive up the mountains to get our next birding lodge found at 2,900 meters. . Dinner and night in Lodge.

  •  DAY 14: Full Day Birding

Early and late afternoon birding along the road for mixed flocks and residents species.  We will try also at dusk for some owls. Meals at lodge and overnight.

Target Species: Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Grass-green Mountain-Tanager, Chestnut-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Hooded Mountain-Tanager, Barred Becard, Red-crested and Chestnut-crested Cotingas, Slaty-backed Chat-tyrant, Golden-headed Quetzal, Golden-collared Tanager, Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, Blue-banded Toucanet, Red and White Antpitta (E), Marcapata Spinetail (E) and many others.and many others.

  • DAY 15: Birding drive to Cusco

Early breakfast and we will search for some missing species on our way back to Cusco City. Dinner and night in Hotel.

  • DAY 16: Flight to Puerto Maldonado - Sandoval Lake

Today we will take a morning flight and we will welcome to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the office if we need. Then we will start our boat trip for 30 minutes to get the entrance to lake sandoval. There we will start birdng walk to reach a small boat with paddles to explore the lake on our way to get our next lodge. Dinner and Night in Lodge Sandoval

  • Day 17: Full day Birding

Early birding by a catamaran along the lake for resident species and with a good luck a family of Giant Otters, Black Caiman, Agami Heron, Capped Heron, kingfishers and many others wildlife. After a nice early morning, we will back to our lodge for breakfast and after we will keep birding along the trails, then some break to avoid the heat. Then late afternoon we will take the catamaran again to search for more species before dark. The second day we will bird along the trails for the morning and afternoon. But if we need to do the lake again for some missing species there is a chance for sure. Dinner and Night in Lodge Sandoval

  • Day 18: Birding the Upper Tambopata Reserve

Early breakfast and we will start our way back birding along the lake and trail untill we arrive the main river for our boat trip to the city for lunch. Then we will start our next birding hot spot. We will drive for 40 minutes along the main highway to get our next birding boat trip. There we will do around 1 hour boat trip with the chance to find several species along the road and river sides. We usually arrive late afternoon. Dinner and night in Lodge.

Birds: Drab Water-Tyrant, Capped Heron, Ladder-tailed Nightjar, Sand-colored nighthawk, Cocoi Heron, Horned Screamer, Great-black Hawk, White-winged Swallow, White-banded Swallow, and many others.

  • DAY 19: Biggest Macaw Clay Lick in the World 

Early boat ride to get the best experience watching Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick considered as the biggest and diversity. Every morning macaws, parrots, parakeets meet here to socialize and get some minerals from the river bank (cliff) as important for their diet. The activity usually end before noon and after we will back to the lodge for lunch. Then we will do some afternoon birding along the bambo forest. Dinner and night in Lodge

  • DAY 20: Birding out to Puerto Maldonado - Explorers Inn Lodge

Today there is a chance to visit the clay lick again if you prefer or we will bird the trails and then we will back to Puerto Maldonado for our next birding spot. Dinner and night in Explorers Inn Lodge.

  •  DAY 21-22: Canopy Tower Birding and trails.

Early breakfast and we will go to the canopy tower for the first hours of the morning. Then we will keep birding along the trail for some other species. After lunch we will bird diferent trail and back to canopy tower for some missing species. Night in Explorers Inn Lodge

Birds: Purple-throated Fruitcrow, Bare-necked Fruitcrow, Golden-Collared Toucanet, Emerald Toucanet, Curl-crested Aracari, Chestnut-eared Aracari, Ivory-billed Aracari, Ringed Woodpecker, Blue-headed Macaw, Red and Green Macaw, Scarlet Macaw and many others.

  • DAY 23: Birding in Puerto Maldonado - Flight to Lima

After breakfast we will be transfer to Puerto Maldonado where we will do some birding. Then we will have lunch to celabrate our amazing birdng time in Peru. Then we will take our afternoon flight to Lima and home connections.
