Day 1: Arrive in Lima/Callao - International Airport Jorge Chavez

This day usually is just to arrive into Lima-Peru and we will pick you up from the airport early or late evening as usually international flights arrive to Peru and transfers to the hotel selected for tour.

Note: If you book an international flight to Peru in time to reach the domestic flight to Chiclayo will be better and we can organize to pick you up and transfer to the hotel in Chiclayo.

 Day 2: Birding for Peruvian Plantcutter!

After breakfast,  We will start our birding drive for 30 minutes south of Chiclayo to reach the coastal area near the north of Peru by the Pacific Ocean with a small patch of carob trees for the restricted, endangered, and endemic Peruvian Plantcutter, which we usually have seen in prior birding times, and also, we will find other species such as Peruvian Sheartail, Amazilia Hummingbird, Purple-collared Woodstart, the endemics Tumbes Hummingbird, Tumbesian Tyrannulet and Grey-and-White Tyrannulet, Collared Antshrike, Necklaced Spinetail, Superciliated Wren. Then we will explore a small wetland along the coast for some shorebirds. After few hours exploring the area, we will turn back to Chiclayo and take a diferent road to Chaparri Ecolodge for lunch and birding in the afternoon. Night in Chaparri Ecolodge

Day 3: Full day birding the lodge surroundings & trails

Today we will have a full day birding along the trails and lodge surroundings for White-tailed Jay, White-edged Jay, Elegant Crescentchest, White-headed Brush-finch, Pacific Parrotlet, Scarlet-backed Woodpecker, Supercialerd Wren, Red-masked Parakeet and many others, we might also find Sechura Fox and Andean Spectacled Bear. For the night we can try for Peruvian Screech-Owl. Night in Chaparri Ecolodge

Day 4: Birding and transfer to Olmos

Morning birding for Pacific Elaenia, Tumbes tyrant (E), Tumbes Sparrow (E), Tumbes Hummingbird (E), Bairds Flycatcher, Parrot-billed Seedeater, Chestnut-throated Seedeater, Collared Warbling-Finch, Tumbes Tyrannulet (E), white-tailed Jay, White-winged Guan (E), Rufous Flycatcher, along the trails and surrounding lodge. Then we will return to Chiclayo and head to Olmos. Night in Olmos Hotel

DAY 5: Birding Quebrada Limon

Early start our birding day, We will drive for 30 minutes to reach the entrance of Quebrada Limon Village northeast of Olmos on the way to Tumbes border of southern Ecuador. The road provides several species such as Pacific Elaenia, Tumbes tyrant, Tumbes Sparrow, Tumbes Hummingbird, Bairds Flycatcher, Parrot-billed Seedeater, Chestnut-throated Seedeater, Pacific Parrotlet, Collared Warbling-Finch, Tumbes Tyrannulet, Rufous Flycatcher, and several other species found along the roadside. Then we will try to walk along the trail by the village searching for White-winged Guan (E), Ecuadorian Piculet, Ecuadorian Trogon, Guayaquil Woodpecker, Ecuadorian Tyrannulet, Pacific Elaenia, Whooping Motmot. After a full day birding along the protected area we will back to Olmos ro rest. Night in Olmos Hotel

DAY 6: Birding up to Abra Porculla and Jaen

Early start birding at Abra Porculla for Piura Chat-Tyrant (E), Ecuadorian Piculet, Grey-browed Brush-finch, Bay-crowned Brush-finch, Henna-hooded Foliage-gleaner, Line-cheeked Spinetail, Gray and Gold Tanager, Porculla Hermit, Black-cowled Saltator, Chapmans Antshrike, Three-banded Warbler. After this nice birding hot spot we will turn our way to Jaen town. On our way to Jaen we will try to find on of the Peruvian endemic species Little Inca-finch, Spot-throated Hummingbird and Marañon Crescenchest, Chinchipe Spanitail, Tataupa Tinamou and several other species. Night in Jaen Hotel

DAY 7: Birding Marañon and Amazonas Region

Morning birding for Northern-Slaty Antshrike (NE), Red-crested Finch, Little Inca-Finch (E), Peruvian Pygmy-Owl, Striped Cuckoo, Tataupa Tinamou, Golden Grosbeak, Spot- throated Hummingbird (E), Marañon Crescentchest (E), White-bellied, Drab Seedeater and some other species, then we will head to Pedro Ruiz area for Peruvian Pigeon (E), Marañon Thrush (E) and finally we will arrive to Gocta- Cocachimba town. If time permits we can try for one of the endemic and spectacular specie Marvelous Spatuletail. Night in Hotel

DAY 8: Marvelous Spatuletail time!

Morning birding for Marañon Thrush (E), Buff-bellied Tanager (E), Golden-rumped Euphonia, Speckled-chested Piculet (E). Then we will visit the hummingbird feeder for the most beautiful and restricted species the enigmatic Marvelous Spatuletail (E), Andean Emerald, White-bellied Hummingbird, Gray-chinned Hermit, Little Wododstar After nice morning we will head to Pomacochas town and some birding for the rest of the afternoon. DAY 9: Birding for Pale-billed Antpitta - Abra Patricia

Early drive to San Lorenzo Village for 20 minutes which is located at the only available spot for the restricted, endangered & Endemic Pale-billed Antpitta with good luck we can even take a photo. The trail is a bit challenging for the long distance about 3 km uphill to get to the spot. There is also along the trail a chance to find some other species such as Lacrimose, Blue-winged, Chestnut-bellied, Hooded Mountain-Tanagers, Peruvian Wren (E), Russet-mantled Softtail (E), Black-throated Tody-tyrant, Mountain Velvetbreast, Amethyst Woodstar, Variable Antshrike, Red-crested Cotinga, Plain-tailed Wren, Oleaginous Hemispingus, Rufous Spinetail, Golden-plumed Parakeet in a good day. Then we will head to Abra Patricia and if time permits we will try to find Long-whiskered Owlet at some new spots Night in Abra Patricia

DAY 10: Birding Abra Patricia and Surroundings

We will have a full-day birding along the trails, canopy tower, hummingbird feeder and along the road Afluente area and Fundo Alto Nieva searching for more species found along the valley such as Ochre-fronted Antpitta, Chestnut Antpitta, White-throated Screech-Owl, Rufous-banded Owl, Rufescent Screech-Owl, Rusty-tinged Antpitta, Rusty-breasted Antpitta, Black-throated Tody-Tyrant, Blue-and-black Tanager, White-faced Nunbird, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Emerald-bellied Puffleg, Long-tailed Sylph, White-bellied Woodstar, Bronzy Inca, Fawn-breasted Brilliant, Speckled Hummingbird, Lesser Violetear, Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Grass-green Mountain-Tanager, Chestnut-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Hooded Mountain-Tanager, Barred Becard, Red-crested and Chestnut-crested Cotingas, Slaty-backed Chat-tyrant, Andean, white-cheeked Solitaries. Night in Abra Patricia

DAY 11: Birding & Moyobamba

Morning birding for some missing species and then we will head to Moyobamba. We will do an obligate stop for the Oilbird roosting spot where we can see over 20 of them under a bridge. Then we will keep driving to get our place to stay. Lodge provides hummingbird feeders and forest surroundings for Tanagers, flycatchers, trogons, and several other species. According to our arrival, we will amaze the hummingbird place with Rufous-crested coquette, Black-throated Hermit, Brown Violetear, Grey-breasted Sabrewing, White-chinned Sapphire, White-necked Jacobin, Great-billed Hermit, Golden-tailed Sapphire, Fork-tailed Woodnymph and many other species according to the season. Late afternoon we will try to find Band-bellied, Black-banded, Stripe Owls, and Tropical Screech-Owl. Night in Moyobamba

DAY 12: Morro de Calzada Reserve

Early birding at Morro de Calzada Reserve where hold several species such us Blue-crowned, Violaceus, White-tailed Trogons, Bluish-fronted Jacamar, Gilded Barbet, Chestnut-eared Aracari, Short-crested Flycatcher, Mishana Tyrannulet (E), Painted Manakin (E), Cinereous-breasted Spinetail, Western Striolated Puffbird, Pearly-vented, and Stripe-necked Tody-tyrants, Short-tailed Pygmy-Tyrant, Red-shouldered Tanager, Paradise, Blued-necked Tanagers, Black-bellied Tanager (E), Lafresnayes Piculet and many more. Then we will explore a small pond for Masked Duck as the unique spot available to find in Northern Peru. In the afternoon we will head to Tarapoto with a stop for Oilbird along the road. Night in Tarapoto

DAY 13: Cordillera Escalera - Tunnel - Aconabikh

Early drive for about 30 minutes up to 800 mt to reach the first birding spot which is the area for White-throated, Yellow-tufted Woodpeckers, Dotted Tanager, Rose-fronted, Garlepps Parakeets, Dotted, Yellow-bellied, Paradise, Bay-headed, Swallow, Yellow-crested, Magpie, Olive, Blue-grey, Silvery Tanagers, Blackish Pewee, Rough-legged Tyrannulet, Slaty-capped Shrike-Vireo, Cliff Flycatcher, Flavescent Flycatcher, Streaked Flycatcher, Curl-crested, Chestnut-eared, Ivory-billed Aracaris, Pink-throated Brilliant, Plumbeous Euphonia, Purple-throated Euphonia, Gilded Barbet, Black-faced, Blue Dacnis, Green, Purple Honeycreepers just to mention some of them. Then we will head to our next birding spot Koepecks Hermit (Aconabikh) which is a great place for Golden-headed, Blue-crowned, Blue-backed, Fiery-capped Manakins, Thrush-like Antpitta, Peruvian Antwarbler, Black-faced Antthrush, Red-billed Toucanet, Black-faced Antbird, White-flanked Antwren, Pygmy Antwren, Golden-collared Woodpecker, Spixs Guan, Golden-collared Toucanet and with luck Hairy-crested Antbird, and White-plumed Antbird. By the feeders Koepckes Hermit, Goulds Jewelfront, Black-throated Mango, White-necked Jacobin, and other species. Then we will back to Tarapoto for a late afternoon flight to Lima.
