The cold water of the Pacific Ocean brought by the Humboldt Current makes its water rich in plankton which supports a rich variety of fish and marine animals as well as birds who feed on the fish. Fish and its byproducts are an important source of economic activity on the coast and an important part of food resource for the local population. Thanks to the Humboldt Current also known as the Peruvian Current the waters adjacent to the Peruvian coast is one the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet.

Peru pacific is rich oceanic waters feed huge colonies of seabirds, and the visit to Pucusana provide the opportunity to see the incredible mass of birds that breed on the offshore cliffs and island. The coastal wetlands in Pantanos de Villa (Villa Marshes) concentrate huge numbers of breeding and migratory waterbirds.

  • FULL DAY: Lima- Villa Marshes- Pucusana

We will pick you up from your hotel in the morning for our birding time around Villa Marhse and then we will drive to Pucusana bay for our short boat ride trip and back for lunch. After lunch, we can drive for extra 15 minutes to explore Puerto Viejo for Coastal Miner among others. If the time permits wwe can do some briefly scan along San Andres area for some extra species.

Great Grebe, Pied-billed Grebe, Little Blue Heron, White-cheeked Pintail, Plumbeous Rail, Wren-like Rushbird, Many-colored Rush-Tyrant, Yellowish Pipit, Peruvian Meadowlark, Yellow-hooded Blackbird, Andean Coot, Peruvian Thick Knee,  Pectoral Sandpiper, Burrowing Owl, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Black Skimmer, Puna Ibis, Cinnamon Teal, Franklins Gull, Gray-hooded Gull, Gray Gull among others.

We will have a boat trip around Pucusana: Guanay and Red-legged Cormorants as well as Peruvian Boobies, Inca Tern, Blackish Oystercatcher, Peruvian Pelican, Gray Gull, Sur CinclodesHumboldt Penguin and south american Sea lions. If we do San Andres there is a chance to find: Oasis Hummingbird, Amazillia Hummingbird, Collared Warbling-finch, Streak Saltator, Pacific Parrotlet, Cinerous Conebill, Parrot-billed seedeater, Drab seedeater, chestnut-throated Seedeater, Pied-crested Tit-tyrant among others. We usually finish around 4 pm in the afternoon.
